Latest Updates 14 May 2012
Welcome to the new web site
Wessex Folk Festival is
essentially 'free' apart from the concerts and a nominal charge for the
workshops.
So please, when you see our 'Bucketeers', give generously.
Then we can do it all
over again next year.
Thanks!
Hot news
The Park and Ride has
very generously offered that if you buy two tickets (£5)
You are covered for both Saturday and Sunday!!
!!New!!
You can now buy Sarah McQuaid concert tickets 'online' via eBay:
The "Balloonatic
on stilts" will be around the festival on Sunday. Come and try
your hand at creating a model with balloons
Irish Set Dance and workshop
Friday 7.30pm
-10pm
Old Town Hall
Come along and join in
for a good evening out. Set dances have been a feature of Irish
social gatherings for 150 years and there is a steady following in
England too. There will be a caller to explain what to do and its a
lot of fun. Note - this is dancing for everyone, not the Riverdance
style stepdance
Also
We are looking for about a
dozen budding young musicians to attend a band workshop under the
tutelage of Pete Shutler, accordionist with the Yetties. The idea is to
run sessions on both Saturday and Sunday during the festival and then
a performance on Sunday afternoon. The music will be of a traditional
nature so appropriate acoustic instruments are preferred. This will run
if we can get enough musicians to pre-register before the weekend. This
an opportunity to learn from a musician with a lot of experience of the
folk music scene.
